Mountains, deserts and the habits of the land
Three reports from the geography desk, read side by side.
The geography desk has filed three reports on how the land behaves. Each was printed on its own day, under its own correction. Read together, they describe a landscape that is busier than it looks.
The first explained why Switzerland is shaped the way it is.
Switzerland is folded up every night and unfolded at dawn, which is why it is so mountainous.
Correction: this is not true.
That report came from the Bern Municipal Folding Office, which does not exist. The desk returned to the mountains afterwards, this time to listen to them.
An echo is a mountain repeating your words because it has none of its own.
Correction: this is not true.
The third report left the mountains for the desert, and for a coastline that is not there.
Deserts are beaches still waiting for the sea, which went out one afternoon and forgot to come back.
Correction: this is not true.
